Cosmos in the Desert: Northern Nevada’s Dark Skies Festival

Cosmos in the Desert Returns on August 16!
Experience Lahontan State Recreation Area like never before at Cosmos in the Desert, Northern Nevada’s premier dark skies festival!

After being postponed in April due to weather, the Nevada Division of State Parks and the Division of Outdoor Recreation are excited to announce the rescheduled date: Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 8 PM to 12 AM at Beach 3.

Dark Skies & Stargazing
With minimal light pollution, Lahontan transforms into a perfect place to explore the night sky. To help preserve night vision, the event will be illuminated entirely by red lights. Stop by the flashlight conversion booth at check-in to join in!

Corn Hole Tournament
Join us at Beach 3 earlier in the day for a Corn Hole Tournament, with the championship round happening just as the sun sets. Come show off your skills for a chance to win bragging rights and festival prizes!

Camping Info
Camping is still encouraged!

• Dispersed camping is allowed throughout the park—except in Beach 3, Day-Use, and Boat Launch areas.

• No reservations required.

• Camping fees: $15 per NV vehicle / $20 per non-NV vehicle.

Admission

• $5 per vehicle for Nevada residents

• $10 per vehicle for non-residents

• Posters and stickers available while supplies last!

• No dogs or alcohol in the event area

• Minors must be accompanied by an adult in the telescope viewing zone
