Bonus January Self-guided Night Hikes!

Valley of Fire State Park

No reservations required! We've added two more night hikes to our January lineup. See the moon illuminate the landscape on these self-guided hikes along some of our most popular trails.

Date: Friday, January 30 and Saturday, January 31
Time: Arrive between 5:30-6:30pm. You must be back in your vehicle no later than 7:30pm.
Location: Varies by date.
- Friday, 1/30: White Domes Loop (1 mile)
- Saturday, 1/31: Fire Wave (1.5 miles)

Need to Know:

  • Except for the specific trails listed on each date above, trails in the park are CLOSED from sunset to sunrise each day.
  • Meet at the trailhead's parking lot. (On Friday, 1/30: White Domes Loop. On Saturday, 1/31: Fire Wave) Each is about 5 miles north of the OLD Visitor Center on White Domes Road (may be listed as 'Mouse's Tank Road' on some mapping services). Fire Wave's parking lot is listed as "P3," and White Domes is at the very end of the scenic road.
  • Please stay ON TRAIL.
  • Pets allowed (must be on a 6 foot leash or in carrier)
  • Updates and cancellations will be posted online. Check the website and/or the Park's social media pages for updates before you head out.

What to Bring

  • Quiet voices 😊
  • A flashlight with a red, blue, or green setting; these colors are less disturbing to other hikers and wildlife.
  • Hiking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing
  • Water
  • Some people like to bring blankets or foldout chairs to sit and observe the night sky.

What to Expect

  • A full moon bright enough to illuminate the landscape! (We still recommend a flashlight for shaded areas or in case of cloud coverage)
  • Trails are over rugged terrain with loose sand and rocky landscapes. Plan for them to feel longer than listed, especially at night.
  • Tealights will dot the trail to assist with navigation.
  • After your arrival to the trailhead (any time between 5:30 and 6:30pm), you have access to the trail until 7:30pm. You must be in your vehicle at 7:30pm.

Fees & Registration

  • Included with regular park entry fees. (You can arrive during the day and pay at one of our fee booths on the way in, or pay at the self-serve kiosk at each entrance upon arrival)
    • NV Resident: $10 per vehicle
    • Non-Resident: $15 per vehicle
  • No reservation required!
