Black Light Scorpion Hunt at Dayton State Park

What nocturnal desert creatures glow neon green under a black light? Scorpions! After a short discussion about scorpions, we will go on a walk with black lights! Participants should wear close-toed walking shoes (no sandals, please), dress in layers for the weather, and bring water and insect repellant. A limited number of black lights will be available to borrow, but feel free to bring your own.

WHAT: Scorpion Hunt

WHEN: Tuesday, August 22, 2023, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

WHERE: Dayton State Park, Group Use Area. 825 US-50, Dayton, NV 89403. The park is 12 miles east of Carson City on US Highway 50.

COST: The park entrance fee is $5 per vehicle for Nevada residents and $10 for non-residents. There is no additional fee for this program.
