Astronomy in the Park and Presentation

6:00 pm – 10:30 pm

Enjoy a night under the stars with the Las Vegas Astronomical Society at Valley of Fire State Park!

Begin with an indoor presentation by Gabriella Motta, a planetary science PhD candidate researching Mars geology and meteorites. After, interact with Volunteers from LVAS and explore their telescopes outside in the upper parking lot to look at and learn about the night sky.

Need to Know

- Pets must be kept away from any telescope equipment and out of the Visitor Center building. They are welcome in other areas on a leash up to 6ft long.
- The rest of the park CLOSES at sunset; guests must be in the area designated for this event after sunset.
- Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult
- Program is weather dependent and may be cancelled without notice. Check the website for updates before you head out.
- The telescope area, outdoor amphitheater, and restrooms are wheelchair accessible.

What to Bring

- Guests are welcome to bring their own telescopes!
- A chair or blanket/pad to sit on, if desired.
- Flashlight with a red, blue, or green setting (please avoid or limit the use of white lights)
- Weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes.
- Water

What to Expect

- From 6-7pm: An indoor presentation.
- A friendly, informal gathering of people interested in the night sky.
- Move between different types of telescopes focused on different galaxies, planets, stars, and more!
- Some Las Vegas Astronomical Society members will also set up screens to view photos.

- 7-10:30pm Guided Telescope Viewing with LVAS

Fees & Registration

- Regular Park Fee: $10/NV vehicles, $15/out of state vehicles.
- Price is per vehicle.
- Please pay the park fee upon arrival at one of our self-serve kiosks in the parking lots by the fee booths.
- No registration required; Drop-ins only.
