Valley of Fire State Park

Join us on Wednesday, January 1 for some Guided First Day Hikes! No reservation required!

 Simplified Schedule:

· 9:30—10:30AM (1 mile, Easy) White Domes Loop
                Meet at White Domes Loop trailhead.

· 9:30—11:30AM (3 miles, Experienced scramblers only) Scouts Arch
                Meet at Parking Lot P1.

· 10:00—11:00AM (1.5 miles, Moderate) Silica Dome
                Meet at Silica Dome Parking Area at end of Fire Canyon Road.

· 10:00AM—2:00PM (5 miles, Moderate) Pinnacles
                Meet at Atlatl Rock Picnic Area.

· 12:00—1:30PM (1 mile, Easy) Rainbow Vista
                Meet at Rainbow Vista Trailhead.

· 12:00—2:00PM (3 miles, Moderate) Duck Rock Petroglyph Loop
                Meet at the pullouts on the northernmost bend after Parking Lot P3;
                look for the cattle gate on the north side of the road.

· 1:00—2:00PM (0.75 mile, Easy) Mouse’s Tank/Petroglyph Canyon
                Meet at Mouse’s Tank Trailhead.

 

Detailed Schedule:

· 9:30—10:30am White Domes Loop
1 mile Easy loop with some uneven stone stairs, the remains of an old movie set, and a slot canyon.
Park at White Domes Parking Lot (5 miles north of Visitor Center).

· 9:30—11:30am Scouts Arch
3 miles for Experienced scramblers only.
600ft of elevation gain featuring colorful sandstone, small arches, and a panoramic view.
Park at Parking Lot 1 (3 miles north or Visitor Center)

· 10:00—11:00am Silica Dome
1.5 miles Moderate hike at your own pace over flat ground before a steep scramble to the top using hands and feet. Beautiful views in all directions, especially over Fire Canyon. (Some scenes from Star Trek: Generations were filmed here!)
Park at Silica Dome Overlook (Take a right on the road just past Rainbow Vista’s parking lot).

· 10:00am—2:00pm Pinnacles
5 mile Moderate hike, our longest hike of the day features beautiful orange spires and formations hidden behind the brown mountains. Bring food or snacks and water.
Park at Atlatl Rock Picnic Area

· 12:00—1:30pm Rainbow Vista
1 mile Easy hike over flat sand with some light scrambling in a couple areas. Amazing scenery and view of the Fire Canyon.
Park at Rainbow Vista Trailhead (2 miles north of Visitor Center).

· 12:00—2:00pm Duck Rock Petroglyph Loop
3 miles Moderate hike through sandy washes with some scrambling. 500 feet of elevation.
Park in the pullouts on the northernmost bend before White Domes Loop parking lot (after Parking Lot P3, look for the cattle gate on the north side of the road).

· 1:00—2:00pm Mouse’s Tank / Petroglyph Canyon
0.75 miles Easy out-and-back trail over loose sand to see many petroglyphs. Great for families and pets!
