Washoe Lake and the Great Basin

Washoe Lake State Park

Join park staff for a program about Washoe Lake, the Truckee River Watershed, and the Great Basin in general. This family-friendly program includes reading a children’s book about the Great Basin, taking a short walk, and learning some facts about the plants and animals that can be found in our area.

WHEN: Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

WHERE: Meet at the Maze parking lot inside the park on the south end of the lake. Take Exit 10 from I-580 and drive north on Eastlake Blvd. for four miles. The park entrance is on the left. Turn left past the fee booth and the Maze is the first parking lot on the right.

COST: No additional fee is required beyond the standard park entrance fees: $5 for Nevada residents and $10 for non-residents.

MORE: Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes, bring a hat, sunscreen, and water, and dress in layers for the weather. This is an easy walk that is less than a mile round-trip.
