Trail Closures in Spooner Lake Backcountry for Dam and Water Pipeline Replacements
Nevada Division of State Parks is closing several trails and roads within the Spooner Lake Backcountry to allow a construction crew, contracted through the State Public Works Division, to safely access the area and perform necessary dam and water pipeline replacements. The closures will affect trails from the Lakeview Trailhead in Carson City to areas within Spooner Lake State Park.
Beginning Monday, October 21, 2024, the following areas will be closed to the public to ensure safe movement of construction equipment and timely completion of the project:
- Lakeview Road
- Pipeline Road
- Franktown Creek Road
- Snapdragon Trail
- Hanna's Cabin Trail
- Red House Flume Road
- East Tunnel Portal
The closures are expected to last through October 2025. This essential project aims to upgrade water infrastructure and ensure the long-term sustainability of the area.
However, several key areas around the construction zone remain open and are open for normal operations, including:
- Tahoe Rim Trail
- Hobart Reservoir and campground
- Ash Canyon Road
- Marlette Peak Campground
Visitors are encouraged to enjoy these alternative routes and recreational sites while construction is ongoing.
