Echo Canyon Reservoir to be Drained for Dam Maintenance

PIOCHE, NV – Nevada Division of State Parks will begin draining Echo Canyon Reservoir the week of October 7, 2024, to facilitate necessary maintenance work on the gate valve of the dam. This maintenance will ensure the continued safety and functionality of the reservoir's infrastructure.

Visitors to the park should note that the lake is already at a fairly low level, so the visual impact of the drainage will be minimal. The maintenance work will not include any updates or improvements to the spillway.

Despite the reservoir draining, Echo Canyon State Park will remain fully operational. Camping, hiking, and other outdoor recreation opportunities will not be impacted, and the park continues to welcome visitors throughout the duration of the project.

The contract work is expected to begin this month and should be completed within 120 days, although this timeline is subject to change based on weather conditions.
For more information, visitors are encouraged to contact Echo Canyon State Park directly at (775) 962-5103 or via email at ecsp@parks.nv.gov.
