The Wild and Scenic Film Festival, founded by the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL), is one of the nation’s premier environmental and adventure film festivals. Its mission is to inspire environmental activism and a deeper appreciation for our planet through the power of storytelling. Each year, the festival brings together a selection of thought-provoking, award-winning films that highlight the beauty of wild places and the importance of protecting them.
This year’s lineup features a diverse mix of films that spark awe, reflection, and hope:
Obibini – A moving look at Ghanaian women reclaiming access to their beaches and redefining their relationship with the ocean.
Freya – Nine-year-old Freya shares how climbing helps her navigate fear, discomfort, and neurodiversity with courage and grace.
Here the Wild Things Are – Join ecologists and nature lovers around the world in a competition to uncover the wild wonders thriving in cities.
WildHope: Mission Impossible – Meet Pat Brown, the “wacky genius” behind the Impossible Burger, as he takes on his next bold challenge: converting cattle ranches back into carbon-sequestering forests.
Tule – A poetic 2D animated film told through the voice of a young Pomo girl who confronts pollution’s impact on her community and culture.
Canyon Chorus – Follow Mikah Meyer and friends on a rafting trip through Utah’s Desolation Canyon, where friendship, identity, and advocacy flow together.
About Damn Time – The hidden story of the iconic women Dory Guides on the Colorado River—powerful, poetic, and long overdue.
Cycling Without Age – A heartwarming story about bringing the joy of the outdoors to those who can no longer ride themselves.
With over two hours of films (TRT: 129 minutes), the Wild and Scenic Film Festival promises an evening filled with awe-inspiring visuals and heartfelt messages about community, nature, and resilience.
Bring a blanket, dinner, a lawn chair, and warm layers to enjoy this cinematic celebration beneath the desert sky.
Join us at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park and experience why the Wild and Scenic Film Festival continues to move hearts, change perspectives, and inspire action for a wilder, more sustainable world.
