Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort Blacksmithing Classes 2025–2026

Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park

Discover the fire, metal, and tradition of one of the world’s oldest trades at the Blacksmithing Classes at Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort. Whether you’re a beginner curious about working with hot steel or an experienced maker looking to sharpen your skills, these hands-on classes bring history and craftsmanship to life.

Blacksmithing is far from a lost art. Under the guidance of experienced local blacksmiths, participants will learn traditional forging techniques used for more than a hundred years. From shaping hot iron on an anvil to creating functional and decorative pieces, you’ll experience the fundamentals of a timeless craft in a historic setting.

What You’ll Learn

Participants will develop practical skills using authentic tools and techniques, including:

  • Heating and shaping steel

  • Hammer control and basic forging methods

  • Tool safety and shop best practices

  • Creating small forged projects to take home

Beginner “Experience” classes focus on foundations, while advanced “Skill” classes build on more intricate techniques. Advanced classes require completion of an introductory-level course.

  • Time: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

  • Location: Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Park
    500 East Washington Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89101

  • Class Size: Maximum of 8 participants per session

  • Cost: $120 per person

Classes run rain or shine and are held on-site within the historic fort grounds. Space is limited and classes fill quickly.

Registration is accepted on a first-paid basis, and classes fill quickly. Advance registration is strongly encouraged.
