New Moon Hike - Guided and Self-guided
The Guided Hike at 6pm is full. We are no longer taking reservations.
Self-guided hiking begins at 6:30pm and no reservation is required.
**Note that the park closes at sunset. You must be attending a park-approved event to be anywhere in the park after hours, and you must be in the specific area(s) where the event is being held. Commercial photography is prohibited without a permit. **
WHAT/WHERE: Hike Mouse's Tank, a 0.75 mile out-and-back trail over loose sand and uneven terrain, under the stars. We have guided and self-guided opportunities! Be sure to bring a flashlight with a red setting. The Mouse's Tank Parking Area and Trailhead is 1 mile north of the Visitor Center at Valley of Fire State Park.
Self-guided Hike:
- No reservation required.
- Arrive any time between 6:30 and 8:30pm.
- You must be back in your vehicle, ready to exit the parking area, by 9pm at the latest.
- Bring a flashlight with a red setting. The trail will be marked with tealights to help you find your way, but it will be very dark!
Guided Hike:
- Reservation required. Email kwolfe@parks.nv.gov with the number of people in your group.
- Arrive by 6pm. Guided hike will end at 7pm and you are welcome to do the trail again on your own after!
- Bring a flashlight with a red setting. The trail will be marked with tealights to help us find our way, but it will be very dark!
COST: Pay at the self-pay stations at either entrance.
$10 for NV Residents per vehicle,
$15 for Out of State Guests per vehicle.
(If you have a NEVADA STATE PARKS Annual Pass or a receipt from entry to the park earlier on the same day you do not have to pay the above fee!)
