Join park staff and volunteers on International Observe the Moon Night to celebrate Earth's companion in space. Explore and learn about the moon through direct observation and hands-on activities. Bring a picnic dinner and stay for the duration of the program or drop-in for the activities of interest.
Need to Know
- Meet at the Fort Churchill Visitor Center.
- Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
- Program is weather dependent and may be cancelled without notice. Check the website for updates before you head out.
What to Bring
- Weather-appropriate clothing
- Water
- Insect repellent
- Picnic dinner if planning to stay for the duration
- Red light
- Folding chairs or blankets
What to Expect
- Moon-related activities and crafts will be available while supplies last.
- Outdoor setting with opportunities for questions and discussion.
- Educational, ranger and volunteer-led experience.
Schedule
6:00 – 7:00 pm: Ongoing activity stations (moon-related activities)
7:00 – 7:15 pm: Reading with a Ranger (moon-related stories)
7:15 – 7:45 pm: Full Moon Bingo
7:45 – 8:30 pm: Moongazing (using telescopes, spotting scopes, and binoculars)
Fees & Registration
- Park entrance fee: $5.00 per vehicle with Nevada plates, $10.00 out-of-state.
- There is no additional cost for this program.
- No registration required.
