Kid’s Fishing Derby at Spring Valley State Park

Celebrate Nevada State Parks' Free Adventure Day and Nevada Department of Wildlife's Free Fishing Day at the annual Kids' Fishing Derby at Spring Valley State Park! This family-friendly event is open to anglers of all ages and offers a great opportunity to introduce children to fishing while enjoying Nevada's outdoors. Participants will compete for prizes awarded to the smallest and largest fish caught in each age group.

Need to Know

• No fishing license is required during this event as part of Nevada Department of Wildlife's Free Fishing Day.
• All other fishing regulations and limits remain in effect.
• This event is open to children of all ages.
• Minors should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
• Program is weather dependent and may be cancelled without notice. Check the website for updates before you head out.
• The derby will be held at Eagle Valley Reservoir within Spring Valley State Park. We plan to return to Echo Canyon State Park in 2027.

• Sunscreen
• Hat and sunglasses
• Weather-appropriate clothing
• Chair (optional)

What to Expect

• Friendly fishing competition with prizes awarded for the smallest and largest fish caught in each age group.
• Fishing along the shoreline of Eagle Valley Reservoir.
• A relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere suitable for beginner and experienced anglers alike.
• Three hours of fishing and outdoor recreation.
