Join us on Saturday, February 26, from 8:30am-2:30pm, to hike the Painted Pinnacles/Baseline Mesa Off-Trail Hike!

Baseline mesa is the largest mesa that can be seen at the eastern edge of the park. The approach to it brings amazing views of purple, red, pink, and white pinnacles at its base. The climb up the mesa is very steep and requires the use of hands. At the northern end of the mesa we overlook the silica sand mining operation before going down to the remains of the Buena Vista campground built in the 1930s. We return via a pretty canyon and wash.

(6 miles, 1,000 ft gross gain. ~6hrs)

** This off-trail hikes is over difficult, rough terrain, sometimes with deep, soft sand, sometimes up steep, solid rock where hands may be required, and sometimes scrambling up or down boulder sized rocks.

** This off-trail hike is for experienced hikers ONLY. Approximate actual distances are given, but the nature of off-trail hiking in Valley of Fire means that the perceived distance is about twice the actual distance (i.e. a 6 mile hike ‘feels like’ a 12 mile hike.)

** You will get tired!
