Ancient Spear-Throwing Workshop
Before the bow and arrow was introduced to Nevada approximately 1,500 years ago, people used spears and atlatls (spear throwers) to hunt. Join the Nevada Site Stewardship Program and World Atlatl Association member, Angelo Robledo, in a journey back in time to learn more about how these tools were made and used. Create your own spears using local resources like pine sap to glue stone points to reed shafts. Participants will also be able to try their skills at using atlatls to throw darts at targets. A reservation is required before April 1 by contacting Rayette Martin at ramartin@shpo.nv.gov or 702-486-5011.
WHEN: Saturday, April 7, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
WHERE: Cathedral Gorge State Park
COST: The workshop is free but park entry fees apply.
