[FULL] Advanced Off-trail Hike: West Center Loop

WHEN: 8:30am-12pm on Saturday, March 2

WHAT: It’s a short stroll along sandy washes to and up ‘The Wall’ that we walk up when doing the Top of the World.  However, this time we turn left along the higher parts of the park up to Mesa #2 on solid rock.  After enjoying the views of the whole of the park, we descend by picking our way among the rocks at the base of a very impressive sandstone wall.  The route winds its way among red, yellow, pink, and purple sandstone and sandy washes back to the cars.  While it’s only 3.5 miles, there is nearly 1,000 feet of gross gain for a good workout.

** This off-trail hike is for experienced hikers ONLY. Approximate actual distances are given, but the nature of off-trail hiking in Valley of Fire means that the perceived distance is about twice the actual distance (i.e. a 3.5 mile hike ‘feels like’ a 7 mile hike.)

** You will get tired!
