WHEN: 8:30am-1pm on Saturday, February 3

WHAT: This route is 4.5 miles and 700 feet of gross gain over rocks and sand. As the name implies, we go down past the Fire Canyon Overlook and into the canyons south of Silica Dome. After a walk in the sand along Fire Canyon Wash, the hike goes up a narrow canyon east of Silica Dome passing seemingly old graffiti. On reaching the parking area, we depart from the more traditional loop and drop down into another very narrow (and steep in places) canyon that changes from the pale yellow sandstone to red.  Some further scrambling takes us back to the overlook where we return to Rainbow Vista.

WHERE: Meetup location will be sent via email when your reservation is confirmed.

RESERVE YOUR SPOT: Email names of everyone in your party to kwolfe@parks.nv.gov

** This off-trail hike is for experienced hikers ONLY. Approximate actual distances are given, but the nature of off-trail hiking in Valley of Fire means that the perceived distance is about twice the actual distance (i.e. a 4.5 mile hike ‘feels like’ a 9 mile hike.)

** You will get tired!
