Advanced Off-Trail Hike: Arrowhead Road

WHEN: 8:30am-3:30pm on Saturday, December 16

WHAT: This 7 mile hike in the south side of the park follows the route of the Old Arrowhead Road that connected Los Angeles to Salt Lake City. We’ll start at the western end and walk mostly downhill along an easy trail to Elephant Rock. Along the way there is a historic garbage dump with items that are now old enough to be artifacts and therefore cannot be cleaned up. We’ll also go over the Captain Kirk Bridge from Star Trek: Generations that was relocated from Silica Dome after filming was completed in the park in the 1990s. This route is a point-to-point and therefore requires some shuttling of vehicles which will be organized at the start.

** This off-trail hike is for experienced hikers ONLY. Approximate actual distances are given, but the nature of off-trail hiking in Valley of Fire means that the perceived distance is about twice the actual distance (i.e. a 7 mile hike ‘feels like’ a 14 mile hike.)
