Portico Profiles

Fort Churchill State Historic Park

Join our Park Interpreter under the museum portico for a closer look at specific aspects of Fort Churchill’s history. Program topics will change monthly. April programs will profile Grafton Tyler Brown and the Pony Express.

Grafton Tyler Brown was an American artist, mapmaker, and lithographer. He created the only known image of Fort Churchill during its period of operation.

The Pony Express was the United States’ first cross-country mail delivery service. Riders carried news and information both to and from the soldiers at Fort Churchill who were responsible for guarding the Pony Express route through the region.
