Join the Park Ranger at Kershaw Ryan State Park and local artists and attend a three day workshop that will teach fundamentals of nature journaling. Nature journaling is the practice of observing, contemplating, and visually rendering nature themes. This practice connects people to nature in a deep way. Lessons on observation, biology, and art techniques will be provided. There will be opportunities to go on hikes and apply lessons learned inside the Park. This event is for all ages, however the intended audience are individuals who can track discussions and art lessons independantly. Minors will need accompaniement. This is for all skill levels, lessons will focus on beginner skill levels with art and a novice level understanding of biological processes. Attendees can come for all or part of the workshop.
Need to Know
- Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult
- Program schedule subject to change, contact park ahead of attending with any questions or for final schedule.
- Campsites available, inquire by emailing the park (krsp@parks.nv.gov) or phone (775-726-3564).
- All meals will be on your own
What to Bring
- Water bottle
- Cold weather clothing
- Comfy camp chair
- Any art supplies desired. Some basic supplies will be provided (pencils, pens, brushes, etc.), but if you have favorite supplies bring what you have
What to Expect
Event lessons will be approximately 1 hr per subject.
Time for application of principles will be provided after lessons.
Ranger led hikes will be conducted to teach specific principles and point out physical and biological points of interest. Hikes will be a moderate-easy difficulty level.
Most lessons will be conducted under pavilion with picnic tables.

Event is free, park entry applies ($5/day)
If camping camping fees apply ($25/day)
