National Audubon Day Birdwatching Program

Washoe Lake State Park

In honor of National Audubon Day, we will be hosting a birdwatching program at Washoe Lake State Park. Washoe Valley is an Important Bird Area, with over 215 bird species identified in this transition zone between the Great Basin and Sierra Nevada.

Date: Sunday, April 26, 2026
Time: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Location: Washoe Lake State Park Day Use Area

Need to Know:

  • Pets not recommended for this program
  • Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult
  • Program is weather dependent and may be cancelled without notice. Check the website for updates before you head out.
  • Meet near the boat ramp inside Washoe Lake State Park
  • The park has a limited supply of binoculars and bird guides to use during the program.

  • Water
  • Hat and sun protection
  • Comfortable shoes
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Binoculars and a camera

What to Expect

  • Birdwatching through the park’s Day Use Area
  • Outdoor setting with opportunities for questions and discussion
  • Educational ranger-led experience
  • Slow, easy pace on level surfaces

Fees & Registration

  • Drop-in welcome, no reservations necessary
  • No program fee
  • Park entrance fee: $5 per vehicle for Nevada residents, $10 out of state
