Experience the quiet beauty of Fort Churchill during a lantern-lit walking tour. See the adobe ruins, learn about the early history of the area, and hear stories about daily life at a frontier fort while carrying a Civil War era reproduction candle lantern.
Need to Know
- Registration required. Please email ksanderson@parks.nv.gov
- Meet at the Fort Churchill Visitor Center.
- Program content is intended for adults and children 10 years of age and older.
- Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
- Program is weather dependent and may be cancelled without notice. Check the website for updates before you head out.
What to Bring
- Weather-appropriate clothing
- Comfortable, closed-toe shoes
- Water
- Insect repellent
What to Expect
- Easy pace hike (less than 1 mile) on an uneven desert trail with little elevation gain.
- Low light conditions. Civil War era reproduction candle lanterns will be used to illuminate the trail.
- Outdoor setting with opportunities for questions and discussion.
- Educational, ranger-led experience.
- Hot chocolate and apple cider will be provided at the end of the hike.
Fees & Registration
- Park entrance fee: $5.00 per vehicle with Nevada plates, $10.00 out-of-state.
- There is no additional cost for this program.
