Basic Birdwatching
Did you know that Washoe Valley is one of Nevada’s 42 Important Bird Areas? Join park staff for a birdwatching walk through the park’s Day Use Area!
Date: Monday, May 18, 2026
Time: 9-10 a.m.
Location: Washoe Lake State Park Day Use Area
Need to Know:
- Pets are welcome, but must be kept on a leash at all times
- Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult
- Program is weather dependent and may be cancelled without notice. Check the website for updates before you head out.
- Meet at the Day Use Area near the boat ramp
What to Bring
- Binoculars and a camera
- Hat and sun protection
- Comfortable shoes
- Weather-appropriate clothing
What to Expect
- Outdoor setting with opportunities for questions and discussion
- Educational ranger-led experience
- The park has a limited supply of binoculars and bird guides to borrow
- Viewing a variety of perching birds, water/shore birds, and birds of prey
Fees & Registration
- Drop-ins welcome, no registration required
- No program fee
- Park entrance fees: $5 per vehicle for Nevada residents, $10 for out-of-state residents
