August Night Sky Viewing

Valley of Fire State Park

WHAT: View the night sky with the Las Vegas Astronomical Society

WHEN: Saturday, August 27 from 8:00 – 11:00pm
** Telescope viewing will begin at 9pm.

WHERE: Visitor Center - Sky viewing in the southeast corner of the lower parking lot, parking in upper and lower lots.

PREPARE: Bring cold water, snacks, foldout chairs, flashlight with RED setting.

IT WILL STILL BE HOT. We do not recommend sitting/laying directly on the ground- There is a risk of becoming overheated.

-

Arrive any time but come early to meet with the astronomers and let your eyes adjust to the dark. You must be back in your vehicle, ready to exit the parking area, by 11pm at the latest.

If you bring a flashlight, make sure it has a RED setting or attach red cellophane. Bright white lights disturb other guests and make it difficult for your eyes to adjust and see the stars! You may also bring your own telescope if you have one.

-

PLAN AHEAD: Cell service in the area can be unreliable. We recommend looking up the route you will be taking ahead of time and saving directions to your device.

NOTE: As the park itself closes at sunset, all participants must be in the designated area. Commercial photography is prohibited.

COST:

- $10 for NV Residents per vehicle,

- $15 for Out of State Guests per vehicle.

(If you have a NEVADA STATE PARKS Annual Pass or a receipt from entry to the park earlier on the same day you do not have to pay the above fee!)
