Radio Day

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park

In the mid-1940s, radio and film star Chester “Chet” Lauck of the famous radio show “Lum & Abner” purchased the historic Sandstone Ranch (now Spring Mountain Ranch State Park). His family’s arrival at the ranch signaled a change from “Wild-West” to “West Coast”, as Hollywood personalities began visiting and the Las Vegas Valley became an entertainment mecca for the world. Join rangers for Radio Day, and explore the technology that brought Mr. Lauck to fame, and the world he brought with him to the quiet canyon that would become Spring Mountain Ranch State Park.

Knowledgeable rangers and volunteers will lead tours of the house Mr. Lauck built, and the Las Vegas Radio Amateur Club will give visitors a chance to broadcast their voices over the radio.
