Nevada's Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) is the State's guide to the provision and improvement of outdoor recreation opportunities for the citizens of Nevada and our many visitors. The goal of Nevada's SCORP is "to increase and improve the quality of outdoor recreation opportunities in Nevada." Nevada's SCORP provides information and recommendations to minimize uncertainty in the decision-making process of allocating outdoor recreation resources. It serves as the framework for the presentation and dissemination of outdoor recreation information. The Nevada Division of State Parks staff has updated the 1992 SCORP, titled Recreation in Nevada. The updated plan, 2003 SCORP, is available to download at http://www.parks.nv.gov/scorp.htm. The 2003 Nevada SCORP is comprised of four separate components, each published as an individual document:
The Assessment and Policy Plan also assesses outdoor recreation participation in Nevada. A survey of Nevada's citizens contributed information for this assessment. The Open Project Selection Process (OPSP) scoring criteria is an addendum to the 2003 Nevada SCORP that describes the procedures the Nevada Division of State Parks uses to evaluate proposed recreation projects submitted for financial assistance to develop parks and recreation areas in Nevada. Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund (L&WCF) moneys are awarded on the basis of these procedures. You can view the OPSP at http://www.parks.nv.gov/scorp.htm. The Nevada Wetlands Plan was published in 1988 as an addendum to the Nevada SCORP to meet the requirements of the Emergency Wetlands Resources Act of 1986 (EWRA), enacted November 1986. This act requires the state to address wetlands as an important outdoor recreation resource in the Nevada SCORP to remain eligible to receive L&WCF moneys. The Nevada Wetlands Plans is currently being worked on. Special reports comprise the fourth component of the 2003 Nevada SCORP. These reports are developed on an as needed basis applying strategic planning concepts, i.e., identifying areas where the application of available research resources will have the greatest impact on the highest priority needs.
