Kayak Tour

Walker River State Recreation Area

This scenic section of East Walker River includes Class I & Class II rapids and is considered more family friendly. It is about 5 miles and should take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. Please note, there are some obstacles along the river, which include overhanging tree limbs and diversion points. 

Space is limited to 8 people. Kayaks, paddles and life jackets are provided by the park. The park will also accept two additional people who are able to provide their own kayaks. Participants should bring water, sunscreen, a hat and dry bag if they have one.

Contact the park to sign-up by email at wrsra@parks.nv.gov or phone 775-463-1609. Participants must be 12 years or older and must demonstrate kayaking ability on the pond in front of the visitor center before the tour. 

WHEN: Saturday, June 22, Tour 1: 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.

                                            Tour 2: 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.

WHERE: Meet at the Visitor Center at the Walker State Recreation Area, Pitchfork Ranch, 211 E. Walker Rd., Yerington, NV 89447. From Yerington, head south on Hwy 208 and turn left on East Walker Road, continue for 4 miles to the entrance of the Pitchfork Ranch.

COST:  This event is free to the public, however the $5.00 day-use fee per vehicle to enter the park still applies.
