Washoe Lake State Park

July events at Washoe Lake State Park include a 4th of July lemonade social, a sunset hike, a Dutch Oven cooking class and a scorpion hunt. Reservations are required for the sunset hike and Dutch Oven Cooking Class.

4th of July Lemonade Social. Stop by the Day Use Area and meet a ranger for lemonade and cookies. Ask questions about the park, see samples of park wildlife and pick up brochures and other information on Nevada State Parks.
WHEN: Tuesday, July 4, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
WHERE: Washoe Lake State Park Day Use Area. Take Exit 44 from I-580 and drive north approximately four miles on Eastlake Blvd. The park entrance is on your left. Turn left past the fee booth, and it is the 3rd parking lot on the right, near the Main Boat Ramp.
COST: $7 per vehicle; there is a $2 discount for Nevada residents. Cash or check only.

Sunset Hike. Join park staff for a short, easy walk along the beach and sand dunes at Washoe Lake. Reservations are required for this one mile walk.

WHEN: Saturday, July 8, from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
WHERE: Washoe Lake State Park Main Boat Ramp. Take Exit 44 from I-580 and drive north approximately four miles on Eastlake Blvd. The park entrance is on your left. Turn left past the fee booth, and it is the 3rd parking lot on the right.
COST: $7 per vehicle; there is a $2 discount for Nevada residents. Cash or check only.

Dutch Oven Cooking Class. Have you ever tried traditional Dutch oven cooking? Join park staff and the Northern Sierra Dutch Oven Group to learn the art of cast iron cooking. This program is limited to 30 participants, so call early to reserve your spot.

WHEN: Saturday, July 22, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
WHERE: Washoe Lake State Park Equestrian Area. Take Exit 44 from I-580 and drive north approximately four miles on Eastlake Blvd. The park entrance is on your left. Turn right, pass the campground, and take a short gravel road to the equestrian pavilion.
COST: $7 per car; there is a $2 discount for Nevada residents. Cash or check only.

Scorpion Hunt. Join park staff for a short presentation about scorpions, followed by a “hunt” for scorpions using black lights. Participants should wear sturdy, close-toed shoes (no sandals, please), and bring a flashlight and/or a black light if possible.

WHEN: Wednesday, July 26, 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
