December Events at Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort

Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park

Now a world famous city, Las Vegas began in 1855 with a humble adobe fort along a creek. First settled by Mormon pioneers from Utah, the site later became the center of one of the most important ranches in southern Nevada. Now a state park, the Fort preserves and interprets the birthplace of Las Vegas. Join rangers at the Old Fort for one or all of their unique Saturday programs and learn about Las Vegas’ pioneer heritage.

Old Fort Fall Campfire – Early Las Vegas was the site of many pioneer campfires, and the tradition is being carried on at the Old Fort. Enjoy complimentary hot beverages and s’mores while discussing the site’s history with a ranger.
WHEN: Saturday, December 3, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Holiday Cookie Decorating – Join park staff and decorate cookies that are both festive and tasty. As part of the annual “December to Remember” special activities sponsored by the Las Vegas Cultural Corridor, the Old Fort will provide cookies and the supplies for decorating them.
WHEN: Saturday, December 10, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Make Your Own Holiday Ornaments What better way to get into the spirit of the season than by crafting your very own holiday ornament? The park will have materials set up in the visitor center for participants to make a variety of holiday ornaments and cards. This self-guided activity is geared for children ages twelve and younger but is fun for all ages.
WHEN:  Tuesday, December 13 & Saturday December 24, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
