Dayton State Park

Starry, Starry Night

Experience the awesome night sky over Dayton State Park. Join guest speaker Kristin Sanderson from Fort Churchill State Historic Park for a tour of the celestial neighborhood while discussing the night sky as a remarkable natural resource to be celebrated and enjoyed. Please dress for the weather. Red lights are encouraged. This event will involve a short hike to the water tank above the Rock Point Mill. It is less than a mile round-trip but involves a short climb and some uneven footing in the dark.

WHEN: Saturday, August 26, 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

WHERE: Meet in the northeastern corner of the Gold Ranch Casino parking lot (755 Old US Hwy 50, Dayton, NV 89403). Dayton is located 12 miles east of Carson City, NV along Highway 50.

COST: This event is free, but donations are accepted.

Carson River Slide Show

The Carson River flows through two states, six counties and several communities before it ends in a “sink” east of Fallon, NV. It is one of few terminal rivers, meaning that it will never reach the ocean! Join park staff for a “tour” of the Carson River Watershed, from Alpine County, CA to the Carson Sink, near Fallon, NV.

WHEN: Wednesday, August 30, 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

WHERE: Dayton State Park Group Use Area. 825 US-50, Dayton, NV 89403. The park is 12 miles east of Carson City on US Highway 50.

COST: There is a $7 park entrance fee with a $2 discount for Nevada residents. There is no additional fee for this program.
