LAS VEGAS-Nevada State Parks is co-sponsoring with Friends of the Fort a family event called “Las Vegas Heritage Day” at the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park on Saturday, March 23, 2013. The event will be held from 10:00am-4:00pm. The Fort is located at500 East Washington Avenue(Washington Avenue & Las Vegas Blvd) inLas Vegas,NV,89101. Tickets will be $7 per person, and children 5 years old and under will be admitted for free.
The Las Vegas Heritage Day event will be a celebration of Nevada’s frontier heritage and will showcase Western-themed activities and entertainment. The Fort will provide the “old west” background for events that will emphasize the history of Early Las Vegas. Cowboy reenactment groups from Arizona, California and Nevada who are members of the Reenactment Guild of America will attend to participate in a Frontier Life Competition from 10:30am to 1:00pm. At 1:30pm, there will be a performance by Native American dancers. A Costume Contest for the reenactment participants will be held from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Enjoy old western music when the Dean West Tribute Band performs at 2:30pm. Participate in the excitement of a Fast Draw Competition that will be held throughout the day.
There will be various Living History Exhibits: meet the “First Lady of Las Vegas”, Helen J. Stewart, Rancher O.D. Gass, visit with the Pioneers and Mountain Men. View the train exhibit by the Las Vegas Railroad Society in the museum.
Las Vegas Heritage Day will offer family activities and games for children. Don a bandana and cowboy hat to have a family Western Photo taken. Watch Old Western Movies in the theater.
There will be Raffle Prizes. Raffle tickets will be $1 each or $5 for 6 tickets. Anyone who attends the event wearing a Cowboy Hat or Western Wear will receive a free raffle ticket.
Friends of the Fort is aNevadanon-profit 501©3 organization that is dedicated to the preservation of the site of theOldLas VegasMormonFortStateHistoricPark, where “Las VegasBegan”. The proceeds from the Las Vegas Heritage Day fundraiser will be used for programs and projects at the Fort.
