April 6: Valley of Fire’s 4th Annual Classic Car Show

Join us at Valley of Fire State Park for our 4th annual classic car show.  Open to pre-1985 classic vehicles.  Music, food and history display will complement the classic cars.  Prizes will be awarded at 3pm.  For an Entry Form, visit us at http://parks.nv.gov/parks/valley-of-fire-state-park.  The event is limit to 30 cars.                                                          

               WHEN: Saturday, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m.

 April 7:  Searching for the Mystic Bat Woman

Meet with a volunteer to explore the possible meanings of the Mystic Bat Woman.  Start the adventure with a short presentation in the Visitor Center and then continue the adventure by caravanning to Mouse’s Tank trail.

Who or What is Kokopelli? Join a volunteer to find out the significance of this North American figure.

April 7:  Rock Art of the Mojave Desert

Come join one of our volunteers to learn the who, what, when, where, why and how of Mojave Desert Rock Art.

WHEN: Sunday, April 7 from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

April 8: Guided Petroglyph Tour

Learn about the petroglyphs with a staff member on a short walk to hidden panels of petroglyphs.

WHEN: Monday, April 8 from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

               WHERE: Picnic area at Mouse’s Tank, 29450 Valley of Fire Road, Overton, NV 89040. Valley of Fire State Park is six miles from Lake Mead and 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas via Interstate 15 and on exit 75.

April 11-14: Clark County Fair

Visit us at the Clark County Fair.   Park rangers from all southern Nevada’s state parks will be on hand to answer questions.  See http://www.ccfair.com/ for more information.

               WHERE: Clark County Fairgrounds, 1301 Whipple Ave, Logandale, NV 89021.  Logandale is about 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas via Interstate 15 and on exit 93.

 April 14: Finding Rock Art  

Petroglyphs are found all around the world, including at Valley of Fire State Park.  Learn how, where and what to look for on your hunt for petroglyphs.

Enjoy a slide program featuring Valley of Fire’s vegetation. Identify the beautiful plants in bloom, and caravan with a ranger to find some of the gorgeous blooms.

               WHEN: Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

April 21: Guided Petrified Forest Tour

Join staff to explore the fenced-off area behind the petrified logs.  While exploring this undisturbed area, learn about the different plant life, geology, and the petrification process.

               WHEN: Sunday, April 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3p.m.

               WHERE: Mile Marker 5 on the main park road, 29450 Valley of Fire Road, Overton, NV 89040. Valley of Fire State Park is six miles from Lake Mead and 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas via Interstate 15 and on exit 75.

 April 27:  Where is Natural Arch?

Join a ranger on this two mile moderately-difficult, round-trip hike where Natural Arch used to be. Bring a snack to eat once we reach the arch and partake in a question and/answer session with the ranger. Be sure to wear suitable footwear for this hike. Also be sure to carry along plenty of water. This hike should take about one hour to one hour and 30 minutes.

The Nevada Division of State Parks plans, develops and maintains a system of parks and recreation areas for the use and enjoyment of more than 3.3 million visitors a year. The division was established in 1963 by the Nevada Legislature to form a new state park agency within the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The division manages and maintains 24 parks, historic sites and recreation areas in Nevada.
