June events at Fort Churchill State Historic Park

fortchurchill4 June events at Fort Churchill State Historic ParkSilver Springs, Nev. – Fort Churchill State Historic Park is offering a variety of events during the month of June. These events include a Pony Express Re-ride, Living History demonstrations and a Star Party.  Programs are free after the entrance fee. The entrance fee is $7 per vehicle with a $2 discount for Nevada residents. Cash and checks are accepted; no credit cards. June 14: Pony Express Re-ride

Experience the excitement of the Pony Express in Nevada. Riders will ride through the park in full costume and exchange their mochilla or mail bag. The Civil War Volunteers will join the riders for lectures and demonstrations.

               WHEN: Thursday, June 14. The events start at 4 p.m. The riders will exchange their mochilla at 6 p.m.

               WHERE: Everyone will meet at the museum parking lot, behind the cannons. Fort Churchill is located approximately eight miles south of Silver Springs, on Highway 95A. Turn onto Fort Churchill Road and follow the signs into the park.

               WHO: This event is open to the public and is sponsored by Fort Churchill State Historic Park.

June 17: Art Show at Buckland Station

Local artists will display their work on the lawn behind Buckland Station and Buckland Station will be open for self-guided tours.

WHEN: Sunday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHERE: Buckland Station is located nine miles south of Silver Springs on Highway 95A. Buckland Station is the large, two-story white building on the left, about a half mile south of the railroad tracks.

               WHO: This event is open to the public and is sponsored by Fort Churchill State Historic Park.

June 23: Star Party

Join us for this fascinating astronomy program! There will be a short lecture on astronomy, followed by viewing of stars and planets through high-powered telescopes.

               WHEN: Saturday, June 23 from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. or later, depending on interest.

               WHERE: Everyone will meet at the cemetery, across the parking lot from the museum. Fort Churchill is located approximately eight miles south of Silver Springs, on Highway 95A. Turn onto Fort Churchill Road and follow the signs into the park.

               WHO: This event is open to the public and is sponsored by Fort Churchill State Historic Park.

               PLEASE NOTE: Please do not use flashlights during the star party, as this negatively affects night vision. Red lights or flashlights covered in red plastic are recommended.
