OVERTON, Nev. –Valley of Fire State Park is celebrating National Trails Day with a trail safety and stewardship event involving various programs throughout the day.  Participants can learn how to make the most out of their next outdoor adventure.  

WHAT: Valley of Fire State Park’s National Trails Day Trail Safety and Stewardship Event

WHEN: Saturday, June 2 from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and again from 2:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Leave No Trace – Learn the seven basic principles of Leave No Trace and how to use them, so you can conserve our trails for the future.

Saturday, June 2 from 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and again from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Desert Survival- What would you do if you were stranded in the desert with no water, no food, and no sign of help? Learn some basic survival skills.

Saturday, June 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and again from 12:45 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. Practices in Cultural and Historical Sites – Learn some basic rules for traveling in cultural or historical sites; what to look for and how to protect pieces from the past.

Saturday, June 2 from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and again from 3:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Wildlife Viewing Practices- Learn different ways to spot, track and identify wildlife.

Saturday, June 2 from 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wilderness First Aid- A guest speaker will teach participants what to do in a medical emergency in the wilderness, when it takes a while for help to arrive. 

WHERE: The event is being held at the visitor center. The park is located only six miles from Lake Mead and 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas via Interstate 15 and on exit 75.

WHO: This event is open to the public.

COST:  The programs for this event are free, although there is a day use entry fee of $10.00 per vehicle; Nevada residents receive a $2.00 discount. Cash, check, Visa and MasterCard are accepted.
