All events are family oriented and open to the public. Entry to the park is $10 with a $2 per car discount for Nevada residents.

SEPTEMBER 18: Southern Nevada wildlife presentation

Join guest speaker Margie Klein of the Nevada Department of Wildlife as she talks about the many mammals, reptiles and birds that inhabit the southern Nevada region.

SEPTEMBER 19: Atlatl demonstration

Drop by Atlatl Rock to learn about the ancient tool the atlatl, which predates the bow and arrow.  The atlatl was commonly used by natives while hunting bighorn sheep in the Valley of Fire area.  See how accurate of a hunter you would have been with an opportunity to swing an atlatl.

SEPTEMBER 25: Dino’s of the Valley of Fire, a dinosaur presentation

Discover the many types of dinosaurs that used to roam Valley of Fire with guest speaker “Cap ‘N Dave.”

What would you do if you were stuck out in the desert with no water, no food and no sign of help?  Join a park ranger to learn some basic skills to survive the desert.

OCTOBER 2: Campfire talk at Valley of Fire

Meet with park staff and roast marshmallows while you learn about some of Valley of Fire’s interesting features and history.

OCTOBER 2-3: Leave No Trace trainer course

This program promotes skills and ethics to support the sustainable use of wild lands and natural areas.  This is a two day course with one night of camping.  After completing the course you will become a Leave No Trace Trainer and will receive a certificate from the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics in Boulder, Colorado.  There is a maximum of 12 participants and reservations must be made no later than September 25 at 702-397-2088.

OCTOBER 9: Presentation: Who were the Anasazi?

Join a park ranger to discover the significance of the Anasazi’s name, the regions within their empire, timeline and dating techniques, construction and architecture, diet and health.

OCTOBER 16: Geocaching at Valley of Fire

What is geocaching, how do you get involved and how do you find a geocache? Bring your Global Positioning System (GPS) and join a park ranger to discover the world of geocaching by finding Valley of Fire’s 75th anniversary contest geocache.

OCTOBER 17: Guided tour of Mouse’s Tank

Discover the many petroglyphs down Petroglyph Canyon, as a park ranger leads you to the most famous water tanks in the park.  This is a three-quarter mile hike through sand but is very easy.  Bring appropriate footwear, sun block and plenty of water.

OCTOBER 23: Cap ‘N Dave’s Ice Age critters

Las Vegas is known for slot machines, show girls, neon lights and Elvis, but it’s not known for its dinosaurs.  The area is the site of many Ice Age animals.  In this lecture, “Cap ‘N Dave” will discuss many of the major Ice Age animals from North America and Eurasia. These animals roamed throughout the U.S., so if you would like to know about the 13-foot tall elephant that used to live in your back yard, come join us.

OCTOBER 30: Halloween jubilee

Kids of all ages can join in the celebration of the park’s ninth annual Halloween jubilee.  Dress up in your Halloween costume and play ghoulish games like ring the grave, ghost bowling and pin the nose on the pumpkin for candy prizes.
